Traveling

Prices and convenience of flights vary from day to day and even from hour to hour.
This page lists the best UK options.
www.skyscanner.net is a good way of exploring the different flights on offer.

Tangier Boukhalev Airport
With a brand new modern terminal this is about 10km from Tangier, 43km from Tetouin and 50km from Mirador Golf. Several international car hire firms operate from the airport, taxis outside will take you to Mirador Golf for about £40.00, or we can arrange for you to be met. It has:-
  • DIRECT FLIGHTS (FROM UK- London Heathrow has scheduled flights to Tangier with Royal Air Maroc or BA.)  It also has INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS from around the world and internal flights if you want to go to Casablanka or Marrakesh for a 2 centre holiday for example.
  • INDIRECT  FROM UK- low cost flights- from: - Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne, Bonn, Madrid, Marseilles, and Paris with Easijet, Ryanair and others. These can be co-ordinated with flights from your local airport. Many UK travellers use Madrid as a convenient transfer airport, using Easyjet.
Low cost direct flights from  from Brussels and Milan with Ryanair, and from Paris with Jet4you for example.

Gibraltar
From Gibraltar airport, walk over the frontier to Spain (5 mins), and a bus or taxi to Algeciras (45 mins), then take the ferry to Ceuta (another 45 minutes). Mirador Golf is about half an hour drive from Ceuta- hire a taxi, or we can arrange for you to be met. BA scheduled, and also low cost airlines fly to Gibraltar from the UK; it is generally, though not always, a little more expensive than flying to Malaga, but a convenient budget way to get to Morocco, and fun to visit anyway.

Malaga

Malaga is one of the best value and most generously served airports in Europe, with low cost and scheduled flights from all over the UK, Europe and further afield. Take a helicopter from the airport to Ceuta, http://www.helisureste.com/web2.nsf/linea, 3/4 of an hour, then taxi to Mirador Golf or we can arrange for you to be met (about half an hour).
A taxi to Algeciras costs about £40.000 or a bus about £10.00 per person, then take the Ceuta ferry (see Gibraltar, above).
Or you can hire a car, I use TransAuto, filling in the forms in the exit lounge of the airport and being escorted to the car , with all correct export papers supplied and sat nav if desired. Take the motorway through spectacular coastal mountains to Algeciras (a couple of hours) the next ferry to Ceuta, (three quarters of an hour), then drive three quarters of an hour to Mirador Golf.

Travel in General
Moroccan car hire is more expensive than Spain, taxis are  cheaper. You can either have a taxi to yourselves, or share a large taxi with any others going to the same destination, a cheerful, cheaper but crowded experience: at the designated spot the taxi waits until it is full, and picks up others en route…

Travel around Morocco long distance with CTM coaches is economical and comfortable, you must book your ticket at the office before travel. Local bus services are cheap but can be difficult to use as they are signed in Arabic script. We have always found Moroccans friendly and interested in helping, but our ‘train noises’ and gestures resulted in us arriving at the airport rather than the station, so beware...
There is no train from Tangier to Tetouan, but you can take the train to Fez or Marrakesh etc from Tangier.

You can be met by arrangement at your arrival place in Morocco or Ceuta, and have a good holiday just chilling out at Mirador Golf without your own transport. Groceries can be delivered by arrangement. Relax round the pool, soak up the sun, stroll to nearby restaurants, riding stables, golf course and seaside or just explore the countryside on foot. There are books ( including guide books) and games in the flats and TV with satellite for your home station, and videos to watch.
Perhaps take a taxi for a couple of exciting expeditions - a taxi can be hired for a day or just a single journey, a day would cost about £45.00 depending on destination. Ask Martin and Linda, the friendly English couple who run the flats about expeditions and maybe finding others to join you in a larger method of transport. Bicycles can be hired by the energetic.

A hire car is useful if you want to explore further afield, take a mountain hike or discover a wider variety of food and shopping. The roads around the coast are excellent and very well policed, due to the Kings Palace being 4km away, so drivers will feel safe. Mountain roads are smaller, but kept in good repair. Speed limits are enforced and other drivers generally well behaved. Parking is easy except in high summer and costs no more than a few dirhams.
